Homes For Ukraine – New hosts needed across South Gloucestershire
Resettling Communities Service team, South Gloucestershire Council

The war continues in Ukraine, leaving families and individuals in desperate situations through no fault of their own. Across the country innocent people are dying, children are going hungry, hospital medical supplies are running out and frightened people live with fear every day. These people urgently need a safe place to call home until this terrible situation changes.
South Gloucestershire Council continues to stand with Ukraine. As part of this support, our Homes for Ukraine team now need more sponsors who can host a Ukrainian guest or family.

The Homes for Ukraine Sponsorship scheme is a government wide programme. It allows Ukrainian nationals and their immediate family to apply to live in the UK with a host family, whilst they find their feet and move into independent living, until it is safe to return to Ukraine.

Many of our residents have shown great compassion, with over 300 amazing families already hosting Ukrainians. Thanks to their generosity over 80% of Ukrainians adults across the area are working, 60% have already moved on to independent living and Ukrainian children are settled in our schools.

Becoming a host

If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a ‘Homes for Ukraine’ host, talk to our friendly team, or look out for local information events we will be holding soon. We are not looking for perfect people, just people who are kind and welcoming.
If you become a host:
• You receive £500 per month thankyou funding payment from the government
• You receive support from our team – both in person and online, as well as the opportunity to meet with other hosts
• You and your guest(s) benefit from our community hub network support and receive our newsletter and social media updates

Before Guests Arrive

If you have a guest who’s arrived, let the council know so they can organise a visit by emailing bristolrefugeeteam@bristol.gov.uk – and can make sure they are supported properly.

The Ukrainian Institute London will be setting up tailored Ukrainian classes for individuals hosting Ukrainian refugees. These classes will take place in person in London and online. You can register your interest by emailing learnukrainian@ukrainianinstitute.org.uk with the subject line ‘Ukrainian for hosts.’

The Sanctuary Foundation has a list of resources to help prepare for hosting babies and children. They are also supporting potential sponsors, and assisting the government in the roll-out of the ‘Homes For Ukraine’ scheme.
