Depression, stress and anxiety are at an all-time high in the UK, a perfect storm instigated by Covid-19 and compounded by a range of pressures linked to the economy, political uncertainty, world conflict and climate change.
With 1 in 4 of us likely to experience emotional difficulties in any year, latest statistics suggest that those from low-income, minoritised Black or Brown, LBGTQIA+ or 16-29 age groups are most affected in 2024. In addition more than 914,000 people report suffering from work-related stress every year, a figure which is on the rise as we try to keep up with the demands of faster-paced, hybrid working.
At Bristol Mind, we work at the heart of a busy and diverse community and we see the impact of stress on people’s mental health, and on their wider confidence and aspirations in life. With NHS services overwhelmed and private counselling priced at £65 per hour, it can be difficult to find the right support at the right time – leading to feelings of despair or hopelessness.
As a community mental health organisation, our Impact is first and foremost about how we fund and deliver timely and accessible services so that anyone in our community needing support can find it before things reach crisis point.
The following sections of our website help you to see how we do this in more detail, and to explore the progress we are making in addressing this complex issue.
Thank you for your interest and support.
