Improving Refugees & Asylum Seekers Wellbeing Through Football

Each week, we run a football club for refugees and asylum seekers who are staying in the hotels in Bristol. We run it to combat the loneliness many of the residents at the hotels face.

As part of our ongoing commitment to reach out to wider communities living here in our city, we have a number of projects working specifically with refugees. You can read about the different groups we run here.

Our football club is a weekly session with residents at the hotels to come together, interact, have physical exercise and get to know one another.

Recently we took an informal survey to see how the football sessions were impacting the residents at the hotel. Here are just some of the responses:

💙I enjoy the session because I get to meet other residents of the hotel

💙It’s been a long time I have moved my body, I look forward to every Friday

💙I like when we take pictures together

💙 I can’t play but I come here weekly to watch and it’s fun

At Bristol Mind, we celebrate difference and see that others whose background and culture may not be the same as ours, can enhance our life and own experiences by being alongside each other. We recognize that many have come in need of refuge, and our aim is to help those people’s mental wellbeing in whatever way we can.
