Meeting Minds LGBTQIA+ counselling

*Availability update*

We currently have some face to face and remote video sessions coming available within our LGBTQIA+ service. If you are interested and this could work for you, please email for a registration form.

Please note that our counselling service is a primary care service, working with mild-moderate mental health struggles.  We are not able to provide secondary mental health care.

We are currently operating a hybrid service of both face-face and remote sessions.

What does Meeting Minds LGBTQIA+ counselling offer?

Bristol Mind offers adults (over 18yrs) an honest non-judgemental space and the opportunity to talk about any aspect of themselves and their life experiences. Counselling can help individuals explore current or past feelings and experiences, relationships with others, general mental and emotional wellbeing. Our therapies enable clients to talk to people who may understand, perhaps just a little bit more, because they too have lived experience of being LGBTQIA+.

Our therapists provide one-to-one therapy for adults over the age of 18 at an affordable rate dependent on disposable household income. We offer up to 4 months of counselling, with the option to extend this if you and your counsellor feel it to be appropriate.

Our service works within the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy’s (BACP) Ethical framework.

Who offers counselling?

Meeting Minds LGBTQIA+ counselling is offered by both fully qualified and trainee counsellors with LGBTQIA+ lived experience. They have all undertaken considerable training in counselling and have an understanding of mental health issues. All our counsellors receive supervision in accordance with BACP guidelines.

When and Where does counselling take place?

Meeting Minds counselling takes place at Bristol Mind’s premises at:

Bristol Mind
St. Brandon’s House
29 Great George St
Bristol BS1 5QT

Each session lasts 50 minutes.

What are the costs?

This is not a funded service and we have identified to deliver this service the usual session cost is £35.  We are aware that for some individuals this may be an unaffordable weekly commitment and so please discuss this in the assessment.

If you need to discuss a lower cost, it would be helpful if you know your overall household income (single or joint) from earnings or benefits when you come to your initial appointment.  We take into consideration outgoings such as mortgage, rent, utility bills, food, debts and expenditure for children or those you may support. Following the assessment we will let you know the fee we can accommodate for your counselling.

As a guide we have a slight scale with min cost of £20 per session. We ask clients to pay weekly: in-person sessions are payable by card/contactless at the time of the session, and remote sessions are payable via payment links sent to a client’s email address.

Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice are charged at £20. If you Do Not Attend a session and don’t let us know in advance, the full fee is charged.

The initial appointment costs £20 (see below).

How do I book an initial appointment?

If you are interested in pursuing counselling with us, you will firstly need to complete a registration form.  We will then be able to schedule an initial appointment with you.  The initial appointment will cost £20 and may last up to an hour.

Please note that we do not hold a waiting list and so will only take registrations from potential clients when we know that we have regular spaces available or about to become so.

To request a registration form please email (please specify in your email that you are interested in LGBTQIA+ specific counselling) and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Please note that the Meeting Minds admin office is only staffed part-time, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
