Bristol Mind assist development of Mental Capacity Act in Japan

Bristol Mind recently received a visit from Toshihiko Mizushima who is an attorney at Law for the Japanese government.

Toshihiko is spending a year in England researching the Mental Capacity Act as part of the Japanese government’s plans to create similar legislation.  Toshihiko came to Bristol Mind to meet with the director and with the  Independent Mental Capacity Advocates (IMCA’s) to find out more about the operation and delivery of this element of the act.

He was very impressed with the work of Bristol Mind in this field and appreciative of the complexity of the IMCA role.  As part of this fact finding mission he intends to visit Bristol Mind again later this year, potentially with a delegation from the Japanese government.

Tom Hore, director, said “ I’m very proud that the reputation of our IMCA service led the Mental Health Foundation to recommend Toshihiko to visit us, and that in some small way our experiences and knowledge may help shape part of the mental capacity legislation in Japan”
