SWAN advocacy – Bristol Services

SWAN (South West Advocacy Network) offer a range of advocacy services in Bristol:

  • VOCAS (Victims of Crime Advocacy Service), allowing adult victims of crime to access advocacy and practical and emotional support to cope, recover, and engage with the criminal justice system.
  • Independent Care Act Advocacy, for individuals with a substantial difficulty going through a care act process without an appropriate person they would like to support them.
  • Independent Mental Health Act Advocacy (IMHA), providing advocacy to individuals under the Mental Health Act
  • Independent Mental Capacity Act Advocacy (IMCA), providing advocacy to vulnerable adults who lack the ability to make important decisions and do not have family or friends to help them.

The Harbour

Free counselling /psychotherapy for adults who are facing dying or bereavement, or who have been bereaved in the past two years. For individuals or couples. Group therapy available.

The Willow Tree Centre

The Willow Tree Centre provides a free confidential and unbiased one-to-one listening and support service for people experiencing difficulties related to unplanned pregnancy, abortion, and after all types of pregnancy loss.

Victim Support

Victim Support offer free, independent, and confidential advice and support to anyone who has been affected by crime, including a 24-hour helpline, and advocacy for victims of domestic abuse.

WECIL

WECIL is a charity run by and for disabled people in Bristol and the surrounding areas. Services include helplines and employment support.

In B&NES, WECIL provides services for disabled children and young people, including volunteer befriending and activities.

Wellspring Counselling

Wellspring offers confidential help and support to residents of North Somerset who are experiencing loss and bereavement, relationship difficulties, stress and anxiety, depression or emotional abuse. Services are available for children and young people (aged 11 – 18) and adults (18+).

Womankind

Womankind supports women in the Bristol area with professional counselling, group psychotherapy, befriending and a helpline service.

YMCA

YMCA England and Wales support young people with issues like housing and homelessness, health and wellbeing, and information and advice.

YoungMinds

YoungMinds provide advice, information, and tools to help young people to look after their mental health, and to inform parents of young people on issues relating to youth mental health.
